Summer Sunday series at Unity of Greater Hartford
will focus on the spiritual power of favorite stories


The important spiritual truth at the heart of classic stories will be the theme for a series of Sunday talks by Rev. Edward Townley, Senior Minister at Unity of Greater Hartford.  The series begins this Sunday, June 27, with a focus on The Secret Garden, a beloved book by Frances Hodgson Burnett.  Music from the Broadway musical adapted from the book and clips from a recent film version will augment the talk, entitled "Come to the Garden."

"The stories that hold a special place in our collective consciousness are always stories about ourselves," Rev. Townley notes.  "They describe important aspects of the 'Hero's Journey' to spiritual expression and fulfillment that constitute the true purpose of every life.  By embracing the stories at their deepest level we find support and understanding through our own life challenges."

In addition to The Secret Garden, the series will include Sundays devoted to The Hobbit, Peter Pan, The Once and Future King and "The Good Samaritan."  The series will conclude August 22 and 29 and September 5 with a three-part appreciation of the story of Harry Potter. Information is available at 860-289-8963.

 

  'Bible Alive' Sundays at 8:30 AM
With Rev. Ed Townley


We'll gather each Sunday morning at 8:30for a very casual, laid-back service in our Community Room focused on the Bible.  Each week we'll use the standard lectionary as our guide to short, specific passages in both Hebrew scripture and the New Testament, and we'll see how the passages resonate with our Unity-based focus on universal spiritual principles.  You'll be able to grab a cup of coffee and join in a simple service that seeks to go deeper into scripture - not just for its theological or historical interest, but as a powerful, helpful and highly entertaining guide to the challenges of our lives today.

World Day of Prayer - Living in the Flow

 Thursday, September  9th
 Our Sanctuary will be open all day so feel free to come    and feel the peace and serenity for your prayer time.  

Did you know that there is an everlasting Source within all of us? It is the only place from which lasting love, peace, harmony and joy can emerge, and when we unite in prayer, we become expressions of God flowing forth into the world.

Seventeen years ago, Unity created World Day of Prayer—held the second Thursday in September—as a global effort to uplift ourselves … our loved ones … our world in a shared prayer consciousness. Since that time , more than 15 million people have received prayer support through this sacred initiative.

This year’s event is Thursday, September 9, and the theme, “Living in the Flow,” reminds us that the Divine is within us, ever-present and active.

Will you join us? You can be a part of this sacred day—from wherever you are.

 Natalie utilizes acrylic on canvas and a variety of mixed media to "allow Spirit to work through her and within her". Her intention is to create paintings that "unfold the window of expression" as she continually "seeks to merge creativity with spirituality".  Natalie's exhibib was presented at an Opening which took place on Sunday, July 25th.

Unity of Greater Hartford will be following Unity's 'Develop 12 Spiritual Powers in 12 Months' program for 2010.  Each month Rev. Ed will present a power of focus.
The power for September is 'Order'.

Order—The ability to choose, decide, command, lead, determine.
